Best Portable Bidets for Personal Hygiene
Only 12% of Americans have a bidet, but the benefits should have this number close to 100%. Many people in the US (including me, until several years ago) associated a stigma with bidets- but I challenge you not to knock it until you try it. Portable bidets have gained popularity in the backpacking and survivalist communities because they are effective, inexpensive, and reusable. There are many brands to pick from now, with different features and sizes.
This is where we come in. We’ve researched the best portable bidets, tested them, and now the results are in: the overall best, a budget option, and a bottle adapter. If you need a reliable hygiene solution, one of our suggestions will keep you fresh.

Best Portable Bidet
Brondell GoSpa
Portable, Inexpensive, and Effective
This versatile and portable bidet is the best for the money by far and works great in any emergency kit.
*Price at time of publishing; check for price changes or sales.
Brondell is a leading brand in installed bidets, but they also make a quality portable option. Their GoSpa handheld bidet packs down by inverting the cap, comes with a carrying bag, and has an integrated pressure valve- all at an outstanding price.
Specifications
- Capacity: 400mL
- Size: 3″ D x 8″ L
- Weight: 2.0 ounces (empty bidet out of bag)
Some portable bidets have longer and larger reservoirs and nozzles, but I appreciate how the GoSpa is designed to be used with precision in tight spaces. It’s easy to squeeze several times in succession, despite its thicker plastic construction, thanks to the pressure valve on the bottom.
The carrying case keeps the cap with the bottle when you reverse it for storage, and keeps your gear from getting wet when you stash it in your backpack.
If you need a portable bidet, the Brondell GoSpa Travel Bidet is what you’re looking for.

Budget Portable Bidet
Foofoo
Large, Easy-to-Use, and Inexpensive
This bidet offers plenty of reach with its right-angle spout, plus it holds plenty of water.
*Price at time of publishing; check for price changes or sales.
Closing in on half a liter, this bidet can get you seriously clean on a budget. It costs a little less than our other picks, but the Foofoo bidet is one of the largest with the simplest design.
Specifications
- Capacity: 450mL
- Size: 3.25″ D x 8.25″ L
- Weight: 2.7 ounces
One downside of the Foofoo is the extendable wand spout. This gives you a lot of reach with the bidet, even though it collapses into itself for storage. Despite that advantage, the spout can collapse on itself when it is dropped upside down, which is how you hold it in some positions while using it.
At an unbeatable price that will change your toileting, the Foofoo Portable Bidet can get the job done.

Bidet Bottle Cap
CuloClean
Small, Simple, and Glow-in-the-Dark
Turn any water bottle into a bidet with this easy-to-spot cap.
*Price at time of publishing; check for price changes or sales.
You might be familiar with making a bidet from a water bottle, but that can be cumbersome to actually use. CuloClean perfected it with a versatile cap that has four O-rings to prevent leaks.
Specifications
- Capacity: Varies (fits small water bottles up to 2L bottles)
- Size: 1″ x 1.5″
- Weight: 0.5 ounces
Not only is this little cap versatile, it’s also easy to spot at night if you pick the glow-in-the-dark option. It charges quickly in light and glows for several minutes, allowing you to maneuver in the dark to tidy up your business. It also helps you not lose it, because it is a pretty small bottle accessory.
If you want the smallest and most versatile solution, get a CuloClean Glow-in-the-dark Bottle Cap Bidet.

The Bidets We Compared
Our research narrowed the field down to a few brands and types of bidets that we compared: Tushy, Hibbent, CubeJet, Brondell, HappyPo, and more.
You can see our full list of review criteria below in the What to Look For section, with an explanation for each.
You may be used to a portable bidet if you’ve had a baby, for instance. Our US healthcare system may charge an arm and a leg for those little hand-held irrigation bottles, but they are just portable bidets.
We’re always looking for new and better equipment, so if you have a personal bidet that you love, let us know in the comments. We review most of our tested gear annually so we can try to get it in the next roundup and see if it will beat out our top picks.
What to Look For
The best portable bidets have a few features to look for:
- Value
- Effectiveness
- Capacity
- Size & Weight
- Versatility
When you get the right blend of these, you can find the perfect sprayer to keep you fresh and sanitized. Below, we break down what each of these features means for the bidets that truly set themselves apart.
Value: Cost vs. Benefit
The amount of money you spend on something like a spritzer for your behind shouldn’t blow out your entire budget. There is a wide range of prices from portable models to installed luxury bidets.
You never want to spend too much money on one resource, even when it comes to health and sanitation. It’s better to diversify your spending to make sure you are covered for a wide range of scenarios.
Effectiveness
The whole point of a bidet is to keep you clean, so you want it to be effective at doing just that.
The nozzle pressure and how easy the bidet dispenses water (usually by squeezing the bottle) determine how effective a portable bidet is.
Capacity
The more water a personal bidet holds, the more likely you are to get clean without interruption. If you run out of water, it can be an awkward situation to find more.
Bidet caps let you pick your capacity by supplying your own bottle. We tested bidets with built-in reservoirs that typically hold less than half a liter, but the bottle cap bidets even fit on two-liter bottles.
Size & Weight
Most portable bidets don’t weigh much when they are empty. Water weighs a lot, so it doesn’t make sense to transport it with water inside- especially since most models will leak out of the nozzle.
Again, bottle cap bidets excel here since they don’t take up much space and weigh less than an ounce. You can easily fit one in any hygiene bag, making them a smart choice if you are running out of room in a backpack.

Versatility
Versatility really shines for portable bidets. You can rig these as first-aid irrigation devices, siphons, and plenty of other uses well past their basic portable sanitation uses.
Some models come in different colors or even glow-in-the-dark materials, which can make them easier to spot and handle in low light.
Portable vs. Installed Bidets
Besides portable bidets for portable kits, I’m a big proponent of installed bidets as well. They save money, usually work without electricity, and reduce the amount of toilet paper you use.
When you cut your toilet paper usage by 75%, you end up saving an average of $50 per person each year. As you guessed, that can stack up to quite a lot.
Toilet paper isn’t cheap. And the cost of the toilet paper isn’t the only thing- if you are prepared at all, your toilet paper is taking up precious shelf space. Plus, with less toilet paper, you will experience less clogging. We won’t even get into septic tank savings.

Bidets have also been found to be more sanitary, and a study done in Australia found they reduced UTI occurrences significantly.
Insider Tech does a pretty good breakdown of the benefits of bidets and examines why the US doesn’t use them:
Who Needs a Bidet?
A bidet can be useful for anyone for hygiene. They can save you some money on hygiene and can help you be less reliant on toilet paper, a limited resource. They come in a wide range of prices, so virtually everyone can afford them.
We strongly suggest that you consider a portable bidet for most of your survival kits’ hygiene category:
You can even use portable bidets for first aid (to irrigate wounds), refit them into siphon pumps, and for plenty of other versatile solutions.

Sources & References
All of our experience and the testing we do to determine the best portable bidet are useless without listing our research sources and references. We leaned on these for the book knowledge that we paired with our hands-on testing and practical survival experience:

Conclusion
Bidets aren’t used often here in America, but the rest of the world uses them frequently. When you get past the stigma, you can see the vast usefulness and self-sufficiency that both installed and portable bidets provide.
